There are many ways to relax for free, some people go get a massage or mani/pedis others go out to grab a drink with friends at the bar.

The problem with all of these is that they cost money and on a long weekend, you’re able to do all these things and it can really add up. So if you plan on spending today relaxing, here are 10 things you can do for free to relax.

1. Go Outside

Find a trail or pathway and enjoy the view with some fresh air. Go to a park or just take a walk around the neighborhood.

2. Check Your City’s Website for Events

Whether it is a free movie in the park or fireworks, cities almost always have something free going on.

3. DIY the Mani/Pedi

Chances are you have a nail file and some polish. Grab yourself a glass of wine and watch a movie while you do your nails.

4. Do the Dishes

Maybe I’m just weird but I find doing the dishes to be really relaxing. It’s productive and easy to do, so long as you kick everyone else out of the kitchen first. Turn up some music and throw in a little dancing for some extra fun.

5. Stay In

Watch a DVD or something off of Netflix, do it without your phone or computer by your side. It’s amazing how much more relaxing and enjoyable a movie is when you aren’t constantly staring at a computer screen.

6. Set Up or Go to a Potluck BBQ

Make something to take using stuff you already have and enjoy the company of friends or family.

7. Color

With your kids or with your friends or just by yourself. Adult coloring books are all the rage and you could always find a free print out online.

8. Fold Laundry

Again this may just be me being weird but I find folding clothes when I’m not rushed, is rather relaxing. I like to watch TV and maybe enjoy a glass of wine while I fold and put away.

9. Take a Bubble Bath

Even if you are out of bubble bath, you can DIY some with a little hand soap, egg white, and honey. Throw in some Epsom salt if you have it and you will be soaking in luxury. Enjoy a book and a glass of wine while you soak.

10. Call a Friend

Take time to catch up with a friend that lives far away and you haven’t talked to in a while.

Wrapping it Up with a Bow on Top

No matter what you decide to do, remember it isn’t necessary to spend money to relax or have some fun. Perhaps you don’t enjoy doing the dishes like I do, find what you do enjoy and take the time to enjoy it.

What other ways do you like to relax for free?
