Freelancing has been a life saver for me. It’s allowed me a lot of freedom this past year and it made it perfectly ok when I got laid off at the end of last year. While I work as a freelance writer, there are a number of avenues you can take in the freelancing world. It’s just a matter of what you love to do and can get someone to pay you to do.

Remember it is always best to test something out before you dive in head first. So dip your toes in the freelancing waters by making it a side hustle first. And last but not least, make sure you remember to set aside some money for taxes.

Now onto 8 different ways you can make money freelancing.

1. FREELANCE WRITING

When I started freelance writing it was as a side hustle. Though I’ve since moved to doing it full time. It is by far my favorite side hustle because as long as you get the work done by deadline, it doesn’t matter when you do the work. Plus the pay is excellent.

Check out my post on how to get started freelance writing as a side hustle. If you are looking for a course to help you, I took Gina Horkey’s 30 Days or Less to Freelance Writing Success and highly recommend it. You can read my review of the course here.

2. WEB DESIGN

Lot’s of people love the idea of working online but may struggle with creating a website, which is where this side hustle comes in.

AmbitionAlly does a fantastic job outlining how you can get more freelance web design work.

3. GRAPHIC DESIGN

While web design and graphic design can go hand in hand, you can choose just to focus on graphics. This can be interpreted pretty broadly, but one example might be creating graphics for blog posts or for social media sharing purposes.

Check out Nesha Woolery’s site for 5 things you should do before you become a freelance designer.

4. BOOKKEEPING

Being good at personal finance doesn’t necessarily mean you are good at business finance. There are a whole different set of rules which is why every business could benefit from a bookkeeper.

Michelle from Making Sense of Cents, conducted an interview with a professional bookkeeper about how you can get started as a freelance bookkeeper.

5. VIDEO EDITING

With the rise of Youtube, video creation and thus video editing has become a big field, where you are sure to find some work if you are interested in side hustling as a video editor.

Well Kept Wallet featured Tonya a video editor about how she managed to make it a full time job, she talks about the challenges as well as gives advice for those wanting to become freelance video editors.

6. TRANSCRIBING

Besides just editing a video, having subtitles help people to watch if they don’t speak the language or if they can’t have the volume up for some reason. There are lots of opportunities to side hustle as a freelance transcriptionist. You can find transcribing work through various transcription agencies or on your own.

Mel from Broke Girl Rich did a review of the transcription agency Rev and what it was like to earn some money on the side transcribing.

7. DRAFT PODCAST SHOW NOTES

Just like there is a lot more to blogging than writing a post, there is a lot more to podcasting than recording an episode. Show notes are just one example of how you could freelance, you might also edit the recording of the show or help manage social media for the podcast.

If you are talented writer but have no idea what I’m talking about when I refer to podcast show notes, then, you can read up on how to draft excellent podcast show notes over on WP Media Pro.

8. VOICE ACTING

One of the best parts of voice acting, unlike regular acting is that it can be done from anywhere. With minimal set up a decent microphone and your smooth voice you can earn some money.

Find out how you can make thousands as a voice actor by reading this post over on Making Sense of Cents.

Wrapping it Up with a Bow on Top
